The Lowdown

Ever heard a show being described as a clip show? Well this ep is a CLIP SHOW. Ok, so it's disguised as a briefing for a new Prez, who is played by the brilliant William Devane, and is interspersed with clips from previous eps.

I guess from my tone, that you can get that I didn't particularly like this episode. What gave it away?
Well you know, however clip shows are disguised, they are always clip shows. Disclosure was a clip show, but at least we had some humor (spelling for my American friends!) from the unexpected appearance from Thor. There was very little humor in this episode.
Basically, the idea is to brief the new Prez on the Stargate project. Of course, at first, he doesn't believe the Chief of Staff at all, but eventually he is convinced. That's when he goes to see Kinsey, who is now Vice Prez and asks why he wasn't told sooner. Anyway, enough of that. Kinsey wants the entire command replaced... again, a surprise, not!
He is trying again to discredit SG-1 and General Hammond. It is nice to see the Chief sticking up for them and the Prez really amazed that each of SG-1 are still functioning after all they had been through.

All through this are clips of previous shows, detailing specific muck ups, each told by Woolsey and on Kinsey's orders. There are only the four of them in the President's room. Oh how can I forget... there is a funny moment where the new President takes his shoes off and pads around the carpet in the Oval office while the Chief briefs him at the beginning! That's it...the only funny bit.
One of the discussions centers around Jack and Sam, Kinsey infers that they are breaking regs and that they are fraternizing. The Prez and the Chief say likewise, they don't believe it... That's left in the air.

The only member of the regular cast that's shown without a clip, is Hammond. That happens at the end where Kinsey kinda threatens the new Prez, where else did he get the funding??? Woolsey and Kinsey get into a little argument, Kinsey warns him to choose the right side...

The Chief asks to spend a little time arguing the SGC's case with the present command and flagship team. That is the set up for the Lost City, as the chief believes, they are only ones capable to find it. He goes to tell the Chief, who says, you are very good at finding the truth, go find it... He visits Hammond, who gives him a copy of the disc Jack and Maybourne got from Kinsey's home computer when they gatecrashed his party in Chain Reaction.

Woosely then gives the copy of the disc to the Prez to do with as he wishes.

Sorry, I'm not gonna rehash the whole thing for you. The interaction between the guest stars was good, nothing wrong there, but as I said at the begining, a clip show is a clip show. Nothing you can do to disguise it. The effort was there to try and make it decent, the talent were excellent...that's it.

Reviewers Thoughts?

Boringgggggggggggggg for the regular SG watcher.
I guess we have to bear in mind they probably spent over their budget on The Lost City episodes to follow, they better be good... Notable performances from Robert Picardo, returning as Agent Woosely and William Devane, the Prez. The new Chief of Staff guy was good too.
Watch for yourself and have a think about it.
Let me know how you feel about it...here
