The Lowdown

This review is also kind of an synopsis of the story for those that have not seen Resurrection. Bear in mind this contains spoilers in detail for the episode... lets get to the action.
Please also bear in mind that this was written with the express purpose of getting it on the site for you all, if there are mistakes, blame my writing fingers!

OK this IS *the* collaborative effort of the SG-1 team... Amanda Tapping directed and Michael Shanks wrote it. All we need now is Chris Judge to have been DOP! Couple of thoughts at the beginning? Go on indulge me you know you want to.
Amanda gets to choose I think, great wardrobe! Jack is conspicuously absent, in fact he isn't in the entire episode! That's fairly annoying, well more than annoying, I was looking for him to at least pop up and have something to dumb to say in his own little way. Shame. Plus you get Agent Barret back and we all know who he likes!
Oh, as a side note, a lot of people saw a spoiler picture of Daniel and Sam kissing. Sorry folks. It's Amanda and Michael playing about! Got it from Amanda herself in a recent chat with her fans! Anyway back to the action... oh what have I forgotten to comment on...oh yes, one has the feeling, right at the beginning that Sam's black widow effect is back! Poor Agent Barrett! I'm just kidding gotcha!

The team, sans Jack arrive at a warehouse in Los Angeles and are greeted by Agent Barrett. Sam tells him that Jack is still recovering and is taking some time off. The whole team are in civvies. An illegal, rogue NID project went wrong. About 32 people have been killed and they know who did it, but they have no idea why. Think Hannibal Lecter people or even Magneto's cell, it seems that Michael was inspired by the cages that they were held in, because there is a young woman who sits in a clear box, surrounded by strange charcoal drawings. Whomever drew those, they are gooooood.

Barratt shows them the security tape of the young woman killing everyone. They found her cowering in the corner and put her in the cell as she said that's where they kept her.
They also found a scientist named Keffler, they've got him under guard.
Barratt takes them to a part of the warehouse where there are loads of artifacts, Daniel is as happy as a sand boy and Teal'c identifies that it is the belongings of Sekhmet. Barrett tells them that Keffler is the son of a Nazi war criminal and that's why they got it all. Sam goes off with Barratt, keep your minds out of the gutter! They go to question Keffler.

Ok, at this point my mind was screaming cliche!!!! However, Keffler was played brilliantly through the entire episode. He and Barratt exchange point scoring sentances while Carter is there. He has a device and Barratt asks him what's it for. He says its his car opener!!! Then Barratt takes her deep into the depths of the warehouse. They enter a lab. Start thinking X-files peeps. Babies in glass Jars here. Seriously. Least said about that the better.

Sam sits at a computer terminal after Barratt says that they are waiting for a data retrival team. She just looks up at him and says present and accounted for! Then they get into this cute little exchange, where Barratt asks her out. She says...'actually I'm seeing someone.' He says 'really... you?' Then she says, 'well you asked me out?' Then he disappears quickly saying that he is going to check on Danny and Teal'c.

That was easily the funniest part of the episode.

Daniel and Teal'c have found an 'ark' they need a combination to open it. Barratt wants Daniel to talk to the girl because he has a 'knack' for this type of thing. It's very reminiscent of the episode 'Menace' where Daniel questions Reece. He talks to Anna, who is unresponsive to his questioning at the beginning. He tries the 'I want to help you' line. Eventually, she speaks and says she didn't kill anyone, that it wasn't her. 'It wasn't me!'
Daniel shows her the tape of her killing them. She doesn't know where she was or how it happened. Daniel asks who Dr Keffler is. She says that he is the one that made her. They, Daniel, Sam and Barratt work out that she has been rapidly grown using the nanite technology from Argos, the one where O'Neill aged. Daniel questions her again and determines that she has had just one birthday, yet she looks in her early twenties.

She has never left the compound and rarely left the cell. There are a huge amount of drawings that appear quite horrible. Very nightmarish and dark. He asks why she wants to leave them up if they scare her. She says that he hurts her if she takes it down. While he is looking at the pics, he notices the ark. On it has the combination that they need to open it. He and Teal'c open it, usually a big mistake in Stargate, when will they learn? And they notice that they have a little problem. A count down. But they didn't do it, it had already been activated, there's a surprise!

Meanwhile Sam gets into the computer and determines that the Nazi's recovered everything. She found that they also found a stasis jar, remember from 'The Curse' where they found Osiris and Isis' jars? Well it seems that the Nazi's found Sekhmet. Keffler had spliced the Goa'uld's DNA, and we all know that the Goa'uld possess a genetic memory don't we class? And melded it with human ovum. Apparently, it took him 45 failiures before they got it right. They put her, Anna, through torture, sensory deprivation etc.
That's why she has Sekhmet in her, but not in her, if you are still with me? You sure now? You are kinda looking like Jack right now. Basically, she's a hybrid and has a split personality just like a Goa'uld.

Teal'c and Daniel pop in and announce they have 16 hours until the bomb goes off. Barratt and Carter return to question Keffler. Barratt shows his manly stuff off and roughs him up a little. They asked him to deactivate the bomb. He doesn't know. He justifies his experimentation by explaining in very slow, for dummies version that its about numbers, she is one, earth has billions. Barratt asks why did she set the bomb and here's the kicker... it was the Goa'uld taking over her personality. She has an entirely separate personality to the Goa'uld and it's getting stronger. Only it can't stay in control all the time. Carter works out that Sekhmet was going to blackmail Keffler with the bomb so that he gives Sekhmet control over Anna.
This actor playing Keffler was great. Sorry have to say, I just love the guys they find to play the bad guys, and he did it really well.

Daniel and Anna bond by Daniel talking about Shifu and Oma. He asks her to help shut the bomb off and even though she protests that she can't remember, Daniel persuades her.
There's a 10lb block of Naquada in the bomb, so says Dr Lee, you remember him...dontcha... The scientist guy from Evolution that is trapped with Danny...with me now? He determines that there is a massive bomb and that they kinda need to evactuate the whole of Orange County. Like I know how big that is as I live in the UK... sha.

Back to Danny boy... who is talking to Anna about her drawings of the Ark. She doesn't know what they mean. He asks her to relax then questions her, she gets angry. Then he nips off and reviews the tapes of how Keffler dealt with her as he hits a block. She thinks he is talking like Keffler.
Sam and Barrett talk about Anna and determine that they may be able to help her block Sekhmet. There is one hell of a lot of exposition in this episode. Thats lots of talking and little action to the initiated. Back to the 'action' and Daniel is watching tapes... He sees Keffler wind her up and sees her change to Sekhmet. It's quite dramatic. Apparently Keffler's Car opener is something other than his car opener device, as he threatens Sekhmet with it. Carter and Barratt question Keffler again and he is very, very smug. Carter gets p'od with him and walks off and Daniel pushes by her to get to Keffler.

Angry Danny...oooh, hold on peeps... He confronts Keffler and says that he let her out and that he has a little remote control device to turn Sekhmet on and off. That's what his car opener is for. Ingenious! He uses it to shock her, to turn the Goa'uld off and on or kill it. He wanted the other scientists dead. Oh my Keffler fellow is goooooood.

Dr Lee and Teal'c try to diffuse the device. Dr Lee is getting a little impatient and wants to start removing the blue power regulation crystals. Teal'c tells him the device will probably explode! The Red controls the timer so he starts to try to interface with it and reprogramme it. It does not go well...the countdown increases! Dr Lee manages to decrease the time they have to TWO hours... hours not towers! Sorry wrong show!

Carter asks Jackson to go get it out of her. He visits her and explains that he had his memory erased. He teaches her to mediate.

The way Keffler blended the DNA leaves her to a definate horrible death as the Goa'uld DNA re-writes hers. Carter is really annoyed with Keffler.

Daniel takes her through a mediation. It's quite sweet how he does it too...until he gets to the Goa'uld power hungry description of Earth, where she gets to decide who lives and who dies. She goes nuts and turns into Sekhmet and burns her paintings in her cell. The men release her to get her out of the fire.

Sam and Barratt find an unconscious Daniel and Barratt goes off to find her. She trips him in a dark corridor and steals the remote control. Meanwhile Keffler fakes a heart attack and the stupid guard falls for it. Well what do you expect he's a red shirt...
Daniel finds the deactivation code and dumps it in Teal'c and Dr Lee's hands then runs out!
Sam searches for Barratt and finds him in the NE corridor level 1. Yep there's an answer to a future exam question eh?

Keffler and Daniel search for her, separately. Only Sekhmet finds Keffler first. It's Anna now, and she catches him and kills him then presses the kill button on her remote. Yet another girl dies in Danny's arms. Are you sure he isn't the Black Widower???

There you go folks... :-)

Reviewers Thoughts?

Though the look and feel of the episode is the same, testament to the fact that Amanda has the whole direction thing down pat, what do I know, I don't direct, but I did notice the POV (Point of Views) were slightly different. So, visually the ep was good, the acting was good, especially the guest stars, looks like they made them comfortable enough to bring out their abilities well.
Sorry, but I didn't enjoy the story as much as I was expecting to. What it is about it, I can't seem to put my finger on, but there were some nice moments, like between Barratt and Sam and Daniel and Anna. Watch for yourself and have a think about it.
Let me know how you feel about it...here
