Title: Heroes Pt II
Reviewed by: Emma Wall

The Lowdown

This review is also kind of an synopsis of the story for those that have not seen Heroes Pt II. Bear in mind this is PART TWO of the Heroes story... lets get to the action.
Please also bear in mind that this was written with the express purpose of getting it on the site for you all, if there are mistakes, blame my writing fingers! I was also interuppted in the middle of this episode *sniff* and missed a lot of the little things I usually pick up on for you all. Sorry...

The 2nd Part you are all waiting for!

Have your tissues at the ready. Honest, this is one of the best SG eps.

It opens with the usual recap on doubles, and then cuts to the chase... And now the conclusion...SG-1 and others rush off the planet. Emmett tries to see what is going on. He is not allowed, and so he goes to the editing of the footage of the interviews he already has. He whinges about the lack of action and that they are all 'talking heads'.

Cut to a battle scene where Col Dixon explains it got worse as SG-1 came in, as if they knew that SG-1 were going to come. The Jaffa are everywhere and there are massive battle scenes...and Jack is SHOT right in the chest by a Jaffa. All in sloooooow motion.

Shot in the chest...puff of smoke and fire in the chest. Carter runs to him. YES HE HAS BEEN SHOT!

We cut to the gateroom where Emmett is being shown around by Walter and there is a brief momment of humor around the equipment. The gate is activated and Emmett is forced to leave the gateroom, but he leaves the camera roling at his feet and captures a gurney being rolled out with a body on it.

Around the corner, Sam walks down the corridor, she is really angry and is crying. Emmett asks her about what happened and she tells him to shut the damn thing off, really upset. Emmett has a spat at the men in the corridor about how he should be able to report whatever he wants. He walks off and in come his airforce men and they say that it's bad that there is a casualty. Emmett starts on about the fact Carter is a seasoned officer and that she wouldn't cry over just anyone. When Colonel Rundell comes in he explains that O'Neill is on a gurney, took a staff blast and isn't moving.

In walks another lacky for Kinsey, Mr Woolsey, Robert Picardo of Voyager fame. He is in to review Hammond's command decision. He is to interview everyone involved in the incident that caused a death.

Hammond comes to see Carter, she is still upset but not crying, he asks her if she is alright then proceeds to ask her what Agent Barrett (Smoke and Mirrors) has found out about Woolsey. She tells him that he is very high up in lawyer standing, he then asks her to say something at the memorial service.
At this point, one is still worrying about whether it is O'Neill that has died. Why haven't we seen him?
Then she asks if he is alright, where he explains that he tries not to favor people over others, that he does not levy a higher price on one person over another, but it was impossible not to in this case. Awwwww...

Then we have a Col Simmons style interview, with Woolsey pacing asking questions of Carter, Teal'c and Daniel. He puts a price on the mission and asks her if she thought it was too much of a risk. Was it an acceptable loss? She says that they never leave anyone behind. He then asks if it ever crossed her mind that it was an ambush, given her tactical knowledge. He threatens Daniel and Teal'c with Jail if they do not answer his questions. Daniel says, you fire me, you throw me in jail, you do what you want. Teal'c remains impassive and replies only when spoken to.

Emmett finds Daniel in his office and asks if he caught it on his camera. Daniel has a flashback. Senior Airman Wells is injured, Janet and Daniel get to him. He was shot in the back and is really bad he talks about his wife as Janet works on him. The same radio message is heard, we heard the other side of it in the previous battle scene where Janet came through the radio. She says he can't be moved at the moment. He then asks Daniel to tape his last moments for his wife. He comes back from the flashback and Emmett says you did. Then he explains that his friend was in Vietnam and that he was saved by a Lieutenant pulling him down and that he captured the shot as he fell of the Lt getting shot in the head. That his friend kept it for 30 years, without showing it and one day he looked upon it and realised that it was a picture not of a man getting shot, but of a man saving another's life. Emmett tries to explain that he only wants to do the same thing.
It is worth thinking here that Daniel is really very upset also. We still haven't seen Jack.

Woosley and Hammond get into it, Hammond prepared a written testimony. Hammond got hold of a memo Woosley sent about the value of the programme, how much it costs to train people for a war that has no effect on the lives of Americans, that they get no value. He puts a price on the SG teams sent to rescue one man is worth 27 million. Hammond wants to tell the documentary peeps just how Woosley views the SGC's value. He threatens Hammond, that if he speaks about it, he will also be put away.
This is undoubtably some of the best acting I have seen Don (Hammond) do. Wonderful scene.

Hammond is a little pissed as Col Rundell informs him that Emmett has tried to get into the infirmary and he orders him and the crew off the base. Emmett comes back and refuses to leave. He storms into Hammond, who orders him off the base within the hour, Emmett reaches for the infamous red phone. Hammond stops him before he gets there.

Hammond walks into Daniel's office and says he's been ordered to hand over Daniel's tape to Emmett Bregman. Daniel slaps it down in the office as Hammond explains that maybe it is a good idea to have him around to show what really goes on given the NID weasles... he didn't actually say it but hey, you know what I mean.

We cut to Emmett and his camera crew in the editing room reviewing the tape, they see the plea from Wells, and they see Janet doing a fab job as per usual, then something else.

Janet is shot by a staff weapon.

Daniel is shouting for medics.

Need I say more? Col Rundell then announces that it is Dr Fraiser that died, Col O'Neill will recover and Airman Wells will too.

This is such a sad thing when they kill off a character. The fact that it is treated well, that she died doing her job and saving someone, great. But why kill a great character off? This is my only gripe. This series has made it's mark in the world of television. It entertains. I ask you...Where is the entertainment in killing a character off? They certainly don't need the ratings.

Deep sigh from the collective voice I hear...

Carter comes into Jack's private ward and he is dressing, carefully. Its a little shippy, but well placed. He is a little tender and he is allowed to go home. He asks how Cassie is, and asks if she is speaking at the memorial. She starts with, when I saw you lying there... I'm really glad you're ok.
And we get a lovely hugs. Come 'ere

Daniel pops in to see Wells and sees that he is going to be ok. Daniel blames the Jaffa not him for Janet's death. That she was doing her job. Nothing about it was right and that it wasn't Wells' fault. Danny leaves and we are with a crying Carter. AWWW. She is trying to write the speech. Teal'c comes in and she explains she doesn't know what to say. She then starts to leave to pick up Cassie. He then explains that he has written the words for her, and gives her it. She reads it and hugs Teal'c.
What could be sweeter?

Emmett enters the infirmary in the intent of seeking Daniel, he wants to give the tape back. Daniel comes out of the corner, it was where he died, where he ascended, that Janet spent three days without any sleep for him. He feels that he owes her and now he wants people to see how she was, what she did. Tears are in his eyes.

Cut to the horn blowing in the gateroom, the setting for the memorial for Janet. Sam starts her speech, Emmett films it. She explains that she got some help, that we often talk about how they give their life for their country. She reads out those that have been saved by Janet, rather than her death.

We cut to the film Emmett has made, rather emotive and it surprised Hammond, who says that its a shame that no one is going to see it. Emmett is surprised. Hammond explains that he has written many letters to next of kin. Nothing ever seems like its enough and that they deserve more and says that this is more. Emmett then gets in one last request that it is missing...

Daniel pops in to see Airman Wells, and his little...daughter. He thought he was having a son. They named her Janet.

It's interesting, all along he thought his wife was having a son, but he got a daughter. Maybe Oma helped Janet come right back... reincarnated into Wells' daughter?

We leave the episode on a sombre note... Jack forced to be interviewed and he doesn't look happy about it.

Reviewers Thoughts?

Alright, considering I spent most of the episode dodging a friends inquiry about what was going on, he had just 'popped' over to see me. On a Stargate night, I ask you does he have no life??
He knew nothing about the series and he was on the edge of his seat too. It may have had something to do with my threat of bodily harm in the event of talking? Seriously, a non fan picked up on the gravity of losing a major character. That had to be good? Well, as I commented, fairly or unfairly, I still think it is poor show to kill off a character, when there is no need. Who's fault is it then? Who knows. I am sure not all fans will agree with my thoughts. However, the two episodes were brilliant, and were excellently written by Mr Cooper, full marks, despite the little blot.
Let me know how you feel about it...here
