This review is also kind of an synopsis of the story for those that have not seen
Heroes Pt I. Bear in mind this is PART ONE of the Heroes story... lets get to the action.
Please also bear in mind that this was written with the express purpose of getting it on the
site for you all, if there are mistakes, blame my writing fingers!
The beginning... how else can I start this???
It starts with a film crew, airforce only this time, one realises (realizes for my American friends)
that they have learnt their lesson on that one. The Reporter, Brigman, is here to document the
SGC and Hammond makes it clear that he will only submit to orders from the President to the letter.
That meaning that there is no grey line. Brigman has been asked to do this by the President and he
tries to use that card, Hammond just points to the red phone!
Start your humming peeps!
The Reporter is like Carter in a techy shop, all excited and says that he is gonna pull the news
out of them. 'By wringing it out of them.' He wants the lowdown.
Jack walks by and starts with a monologue...
'I like Vanilla over chocolate, my favourite colour is peridot, I think Tibet should be free and
if I could have a date with anybody it would be Mary Steenburgen.
They chase him down the corridor and he and Emmett (as Brigman wants to be known as) have a little chat.
Jack coughs into his hand deliberately to stop him from bugging him, again 'Emmett' has
been reading their stuff and knows about the alien viruses and such like, and so shies away from shaking his hand. Absolutley hilarious...
RDA adlib? Place your bets now!
Sam is being set up for an interview and she really doesn't like the experience. He doesn't
put her at her ease, but makes her feel worse, by introducing her to the camera and saying meet
6 and a half billion people... Then they cut to Emmett talking to Daniel.
He asks him about ascension and how it felt, worked etc. Then Daniel's pager goes off.
This is priceless, Daniel makes it look like an emergency and runs off. They follow him and he arrives in his lab/office.
He pulls a fax off the machine... yeah a fax... and says its about an artifact...and that it's fascinating.
It's almost as if he and Jack had plotted the entire thing as Emmett asks what was the rush.
'Oh, I just wanted to see if you'd chase me...
Oh how I laughed.
Then we cut to our intrepid Dr Lee, you know the quivering wreck from the last two parter, Evolution,
who is demonstrating the new ceramic polymer body armour that can stop a staff burn. Only poor Siler gets
shot by Teal'c and it doesn't completely work!
Onward on the SG tour and Carter is explaining, nervously, great acting by Amanda, about the control
room and how it is like the control tower of the Stargate. She gets very techincal, but it is also
really funny. The flashing lights in the control room is explained by Carter, see Gary Jones' interview
on Stargate Alpha Universe for his interpretation, however, she explains that it is the bit that
monitors the power into the gate. They also want to see the gate in action. Sgt Davis whispers to Carter
that they need to send a team out, so they are ushered out of the control room.
SG-13 pop off-world. Cute Adam Baldwin as Colonel Dixon. Ahem. They take bets on what the planet will bring,
trees, friendlies, ancient city or double headed beings. We get to know the team as Col Dixon says that SG travel and
exploration is easier than raising four kids. He is kind of a clone of Jack, only a little rougher
in thought. They find a lost crumbled city.
Cut back to the SGC and Carter asks Jack if he has had is interview, then teases him about the Mary
Steenburg thing. He asks again why the documentary and Sam dares to ask if he has read the memo!
Apparently its to record the 1000th embarkation from the gate. Jack says that there should be a cake!
Daniel gets tied down for an interview but is as evasive as everyone else, he can't tell him
anything about his ascension, and Emmett tries to establish why Daniel was asked to join the
Stargate programme by Katherine. It's all very awkward. Cut to a very, very awkward interview with
Teal'c who says absolutley nothing at all. He refuses to answer the questions. At this point, I
wonder where they got Emmett from, he can't interview for toffee! He tries, but getting answers out of Teal'c
is like getting Naquadria out of Naquada, dangerous and volatile. Hilarious as he walks off.
The 'lost crumbled city' is Ancient in origin. SG-13's Dr Jackson equivalent goes all gooey and
said that DJ will have a field day with this. Off he goes on his own, yes, an archeologist is let
off on his own. Col Dixon isn't complacent and you do get a better sense of SG-13.
One can't help thinking that they are not just red-shirts as they chat to one another. But
13 is unlucky, isn't it? Yep... the red haired DJ double attracts as much trouble as DJ himself.
Let me try to describe this, anyone seen The Empire Strikes Back? Stupid question, most of you are
sci-fi fans, well remember the beginning when that probe from the Republic crashed into the snow?
You remember don't you, where it was black and round and had bits poking out? And it hovered?
Well, there is your Goa'uld, MALP equivalent, type thing. Only it bites. Shoots staff weapon like
fire at them all, until Col Dixon, in a flash of Jack inspiration, shoots one of the walls out
with a grenade and knocks it out when the wall collapses on it. Score one for the home team.
Now we get a Kinsey speech, let's face it, he is the one the entire SGC hate... and there he is
being nice about them. Emmett realises that it was a speech and not off the cuff and wants to ask him
more questions and he flatly refuses! It is Jack that Kinsey interuppts deliberately in the commissary.
It's on camera and Jack takes advantage of it, by demonstrating that he was the one that wanted it
shut down. Then it all comes out that Kinsey is after the President's job. Jack is filmed arguing
with him and keeps looking at the camera as if saying to the world, are ya listening to this guy??
Do I need to add the sarcasm in his voice for you to get the picture?
Kinsey doesn't stop preaching and so Jack flips on a close up as Kinsey says that this programme
can count on his support. Jack turns to the camera and asks if 'You wanna get this?'
You smarmy... And the sound man misses the rest of his spat as the 'UNAUTHORISED
OFF-WORLD ACTIVATION' is loudspeakered over the top! You can imagine what was said to Kinsey.
Jack and the others gather in the gateroom without Emmett and his airforce crew, and listen
to Dixon and the others. They want to stay and explore the ruins, the colonel being as enthusiastic as
Jack ever is about the same thing. Hammond says ok, and so they stay. Carter wants to study the probe
so they send it back for her perusal.
Brigman wants to know what's going on and Hammond refuses to allow him to know. He moans
that Jack is unavailable each time. Hammond says he doesn't want his people under pressure, of every
little thing that they do or say.
Carter talks about the probe with Teal'c, asks if he knew of it. He says it is most likely
that the Goa'uld copied the SGC and made one of their own. They talk of the interviews and
Sam asks him how his went, that she would love to know what the others said. Teal'c explains
that he said nothing, and she says
'Really, its usually so hard to shut you up!
Sweet really. Then she goes on to explain she has to go over it again because she was told
she looked too nervous.
They try and catch Jack in the hallway again as he keeps evading them. Emmett argues with
the press liasion about being denied access to the activity.
Jack exits the lift in a hurry and Emmett shouts after him that he just wants a moment of his time.
Even if all he gets is a series of shots of him evading them.
'Fire away, I hope shots of my ASS serves you well...
Oh, if he only knew... heheh.
Carter then gets caught and he tries to get her to admit about her and Jack's relationship.
He tries to dig into their lives further, after everything they have been through, so isn't there
something more, she doesn't deny that there isn't a bond, but no more than Daniel and Teal'c.
The funniest part yet to come... Gary Jones aka Sgt Wallllltteerrrrrr Davis.
He gets interviewed, it's soooo funny I can't bring myself to put it into words.
Walter explains how he calls, Chevron one encoded, chevron two encoded, then when he gets to
chevron seven, he likes to mix it up a little - Chevron seven ...locked. Says to Emmett that's
pretty much all he does, but its an important job. Then he says, Oh, and I am in charge of this,
and demonstrates the Iris control, open the iris... close the iris... all delivered in dead pan
comedic quality. Even the expressions of the people in the background are incredulous in his statements
as he is so proud of the fact the teams trust them more than the automated systems, and that it makes
the teams happy to know that the team of gate technicians are there to help them out!!!!!
You have to watch it!
Emmett asks DJ to take 'normal' motion pictures, instead of the hours upon hours of boring
artifact, still action. Daniel goes to moan to Carter that he said his filming was boring as she
fiddles with the interface between the probe and the SGC computer. Emmett asked him
to film something other than still things next time! They talk about the publication
of the Stargate programme briefly. Eventually it all comes up and Daniel translates the data,
when the probe found SG-13, it sent out a distress signal to the Goa'uld.
dum dum dummmmmm... more bad luck for SG-13 as Hammond tells them to bug out, but they are ambushed by
the Jaffa. SG-3 and SG-13 defend themselves as the archeologist makes it through the gate.
We cut to the infirmary, where in the background, Siler is being dressed for his wounds from the
earlier incident, in the foreground, Dr Frasier is being interviewed and she is revealing
all of Jack's injuries, alien infestations et al. She can't believe that she is being asked to do it.
The Unscheduled off-world thingamy bob goes off again as she talks, they finish and then he asks her for coffee.
He flirts with her in the commissary as in the control room, Jack questions the archy boy and
Hammond tells him to take SG-5, 7 and Dr Fraiser as one of them are injured. In the commissary, Emmett
flirts with Janet and gets out of her about Cassie, she refuses to talk about her other than the
fact she is not from this world. Then she gets the airman asking her to gear up.
The last scene is SG-1 contemplating what was their fault about what is happening on the planet and
it fades out with the 'TO BE CONTINUED'.
Watch this space...
