Title: Chimera

The Lowdown

This review is also kind of an synopsis of the story for those that have not seen Chimera.

Alrighty...
The usual 'Previously on Stargate SG-1' voice over by Teal'c accompanied by some clips from previous shows... mostly Osiris and Daniel moments, and the key moments from Grace, involving Sam and Jack, and Sam and her dad, it closes on the Lost City references and Osiris sitting next to a sleeping Daniel. At this point, one sees he and 'Sarah' meeting for the first time in his dream. It is clear Osiris is up to no good as she is using a Tok'ra memory device, Daniel has a nasty dream, but it seems like Osiris has her nasty little paw on Daniel in dream world. cue the lovey creds... I won't sing this time!

Sam gets hit on by a guy in a coffee shop, only she isn't hit on by the guy, he's playing it as if they have never met. How sweet is that? Meanwhile back at the SGC, Daniel is yawning his head off as he chats to Sam on their way to wherever they are going. The lift opens and Jack is inside, Daniel makes himself scares. SAM hums the SG theme!!!!!

You know what... forget all those bits, you in the grand scheme of things, really don't wanna know, you want me to get to the good juicy bits, like, come on!!!!
I can hear you.
OK, let me put you out of your misery, the scene with Jack and Sam in the elevator?
Priceless.
The timing of this scene is fantastic, comedic and well thought out. It shows off Amanda and Rick's sense of humour that you see on the behind the scenes stuff.
If you want the scene scripted, just mail me. It's just too funny for words, he gets it out of her why the hums, the smiles and guesses that she has found a guy. Bit uncomfortable, they both agree...

Back at Daniel's house...ok, maybe it's just me, but when did Daniel buy a house? That man changes his living spaces more than Thor changes his body! Osiris visits using Asgard tech while Danny boy sleeps and you see her attaching that Tok'ra memory thingymabob. Then she gets in his dream and manipulates his thoughts by suggestion, and of course the promise of reliving his love for her. Yes, this is a very shippy epi.

Peter, the cop, the man who woooed Sam, is walking hand in hand with Sam discussing 'Singing in the Rain' the show they just went to see. Incidently, Peter is played by David DeLuise, Peter DeLuise's brother. It's cute, Sam gets to wear girly stuff and get romanced by the guy. This is what Amanda Tapping has been asking for, for an age, a boyfriend who doesn't die... well yet. It's not the end of the epi.

This entire episode is about Daniel and Sam, and their respective lives. Daniel's past, and Sam's future. Osiris wants the location of the Lost City and is using Daniel to help her find it for Anubis. She gives Danny a tablet to translate. We cut to the commisary, where Daniel is asleep on his arms and Carter and Teal'c wake him up, the former rubbing his back. They discuss his dream and theorise that it could be a throwback to the time when he saw Bra'tac and Rya'c in that Jaffa prison. He isn't sure why he is reliving it or why Sarah is ameniable, to the extent of understanding his obessions. Have to say at this point, the acting from Michael is solid, back to his old enthusiasm for his role.

Sam arrives back from work and is greeted by a single red rose, with a card saying dinner at eight, suprise to follow, dress up. Then we leap into psyche 101 with Teal'c interpreting Daniel's dreams. They are in the gym pumping iron! Vesty tops. Don't worry guys, I will try to describe the way Sam looks when Peter comes to pick her up! Let's just say she looks fab. Strappy shoes, hair up, lovely dress. Sam cleans up nice! Peter is stunned, naturally and he gives her the other eleven roses. They end up at a traditional dance, it's someone's 50th anniversary that neither know but he had arranged it for her, especially after the 'Singing in the Rain thing' they dance the night away. Bless. Ok guys take NOTE... this is how we like to be romanced. OK?

In the meantime, Daniel is in bed early, no date, except with the nasty Osiris, who makes him dream and show her what the translation of the tablet is about, but uses seduction to do it. By now, even in his dream he is getting suspicious.

We cut to Peter's car, where Sam asks if he wants to come in, and he jokingly says no, then after a little exposition, is in a hurry to come inside. Close your eyes impressionable people, Sam and Peter get it on... yep complete with a sharing 'moment' at the end of you - know - what. Although it crashes and burns as she cannot share her job and why to him. Typical cop, he leaves and phones a friend, asking his mate at the FBI to find out about her. Poor Sam is left thinking he no longer wants to be with her.

Daniel still ponders on why he can't work out the gate address off the tablet. He explains that Sarah is different in the dream, that in the past, she left him. Teal'c does his Oprah and works out that Osiris is indeed manipulating the dream. They retire to the briefing room, where we actually see Jack... yes one of his other rare appearences, again the comic relief... which is such a shame. They are deciding how best to capture Osiris inthe act, but not before Daniel has worked out the Lost City location. One good moment in the expositional briefing room scene, is his statement that makes them think and reveals that side of Jack you know is there, the intelligent side. 'And how are we supposed to know when you know, when you are sleeping?'

Then we cut to Peter following Carter and him finding out that her files have been erased, indicating black ops or something top top top secret. She gets to work in her lab, sorting out the stuff to capture Osiris when Jack walks in to discuss it all. He asks about Pete, and she says, you know how it is. She admits that it does bother her that he can't know about what she does. Are you still with me here?

Daniel goes to sleep, or rather tries to with Jack asking him if he is asleep... While Jack, Sam and Teal'c stake out his place in the truck. Teal'c offers Jack a doughnut and after inspecting them, Jack declines, the picture on Teal'c's face is hilarious!
Little do they know, good 'ole Pete is staking them out. Osiris 'beams' in and places the Tok'ra thingy on Daniel as Sam operates the frequency jamming device to prevent her beaming back out. She enters Daniel's dreams again as Jack and Teal'c enter to 'dart' her. Daniel finally gains control of his dream and tells her he doesn't know, that he never knew the location of the Lost City. He wakes and Osiris starts to use her hand device on him. Jack tries to dart her, but ends up being thrown across the hallway and is knocked out. Osiris leaves the house and Sam jumps out of the survellence truck. Only thing is, Pete follows her and reveals himself to her. She is surprised, but both are fired on by Osiris trying to escape, she uses that Zaytarc thingy finger weapon, clearly she is travelling light! She blows up the truck, after getting glowy eyed towards Peter, who tries to shoot her and covers Sam. But Jack saves the day by darting her and knocking her out.

They turn back to Sam, who realises Pete has been shot...

Yeah, another dead boyfriend...

Just kidding!!! gotcha! He lives, but only because she says, if you make it, i'll tell you.

So we cut to the lovely infirmary, NO FRAISER around, that's disappointing...however, Daniel sits on Sarah's bed, waiting for her to come around after the Tok'ra removed Osiris, and he gives her a lovely sweet hug. Awwww... I told you its a bit shippy. Then to Sam and Pete, yes, he survives, well there is always another day to die! She gives Pete a gift, he lies in the SGC infirmary, in a private room, its a pic of her and he at the dance, and she then starts to tell him that what she is about to tell him is classified under section 11c9... ok so I listened to the detail! He starts to not belive her, but realises she's serious and we pan out on a smiley Sam.

Moral of the story?
Don't go out with Sam Carter! You get holes in you, or worse still you may die!
Listen to your dreams, they tell you something...like your ducks need feeding!

Reviewers Thoughts?

This episode was different, I'm glad that Amanda Tapping got to explore and get rid of Carter's 'Black Widow' tag. The story was written by Robert Cooper and adapted by Damien again. He seems to have got a great handle on Daniel now, plus he seems to be able to voice Sam well. The absence of Dr Fraiser was definately noted, along with the increase in Jack's comedic value. One wonders how much more of dumb Jack we need to see, I have to say that the lift scene was great, up with the lift scene in Full Circle between Jack and Daniel. Maybe RDA does his best in enclosed spaces??? Many fans will be concerned by the amount of shippiness in it, but by the by, it was kept to a minimum and relevant to the storyline. Michael Shanks seemed to be at great ease with Louise Plowman, Osiris/Sarah, and one has to wonder how much 'puff and ruffling' went on there! You also notice there isn't enough Teal'c in it either. Watch it for the fun lift scene and the fact that Sam's boyfriend didn't die...yet. It pays to have your brother as the Producer when you are a guest star, you don't die straight away!!!!
